Dancing, singing, storytelling, and silence
are the four universal healing salves. ~ Gabrielle Roth
Move Sing Heal:
Finding Yourself After Birth
A new group in Portland, Oregon for women who want to make peace with their birth stories
in a deeply embodied way, with a community of other mothers. Mothers of all ages and stages are welcome;
your birth experience(s) may have been recently or long ago.
Co-led by an ecstatic dance facilitator and a music therapist, the focus of this group is movement and vocalization
as a method of moving emotions and regaining a powerful and positive relationship with self.
No experience in dance or singing is required. This is a sacred space to move and be moved with others.
ABOUT THIS KIND OF WORK:
Every unresolved experience takes root in our body. Whether we experience that as traumatic or not,
our bodies hold the memory. When we are feeling unsettled and feeling the pain or grief of the unresolved
nature of an experience, and when we take a new action from that place, our entire bodies, minds, and spirits recognize this as a re-do. Things fundamentally change. (On deep levels that can be expressed in ways other than
words).
That new action might be crying, yelling, vocalizing, sitting still, closing our eyes, saying words, or something else. There is no prescription for what that action should be. Only the woman herself knows and it is something she knows in her body, that occurs authentically and spontaneously without forethought.
We create an environment where women can be authentic in their experiences and their actions, and thereby integrate their birth experiences and re-find themselves as women, as mothers. When we have the genuine support of a community of women with shared experiences, in sacred space, we can feel safe enough to make those
changes.
WHEN: Upcoming dates: April 25, May 9, May 23.
2nd and 4th Thursdays, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Drop-ins welcome in April, May, & June.
Sliding scale, $10 - $20. Advance registration welcome. Please be in touch for more info.

Communal grieving offers something that we cannot get when we grieve by ourselves. Through validation, acknowledgement and witnessing, communal grieving allows us to experience a level of healing that is deeply and profoundly freeing. Each of us has a basic human right to that genuine love, happiness and freedom. ~Sobonfu Some
